Joy Smith is a leader of Cyber Solutions by McKinsey (CSM) and is based in Houston, TX. She has 10 years of experience leading information-security focused organizations and advising clients on topics around cyber strategy, innovation, and operations. At McKinsey, she advises clients on managing cyber risk using business-focused methodologies, and leads growth and outreach for CSM. Prior to McKinsey, Joy was a Director at Novetta, an advanced analytics company in the Washington D.C. metro backed by the Carlyle Group. There, she was a leader in the Novetta’s Information Exploitation division, which provided analytic services and solutions for the US government’s cyber- and data-related issues. From 2008-2012 Joy was a General Manager of IBG, a startup focused on providing market research, services, and custom solutions around identity information security for the public and private sectors before being acquired by Novetta in 2012. From 2005-2007, Joy was a research analyst in GlaxoSmithKline’s Scientific Computing and Math Modeling group. Joy earned a bachelor of science in biomedical engineering from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and a master’s in business administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. She holds CISSP and PMP certifications, and is on the Board of the Wharton Club of Chicago.
