George Michaelides

George Michaelides has over 25 years of experience in the ICT sector. He holds a B.Eng. in Computer Engineering and an MSc in Communication Systems. For more than 14 years, he served in senior regional ICT roles within multinational organizations, where he led major reorganizations, outsourcing initiatives, and the implementation of IT best practices, consistently ensuring the delivery of high-quality ICT services.
Since 2014, Michaelides has led the Cyprus National Regulatory Authority (OCECPR) for Electronic Communications and Postal Services. In 2018, he additionally assumed leadership of the national regulatory authority for Network and Information Security (NIS), responsible for Critical Information Infrastructures (CIIs), including the establishment and operation of the National CSIRT.
Under his leadership, the authority also oversees the National Coordination Center, enhancing cybersecurity research excellence and competitiveness, and the National Cybersecurity Certification Authority, responsible for supervising and certifying EU cybersecurity schemes for ICT products, services, and processes. Michaelides also established a national ICT Academy focused on skilling, upskilling, and reskilling initiatives at both national and regional levels, offered through both in-person and virtual formats.
Michaelides’ office also serves as the coordinating body for implementing Cyprus’ Cybersecurity Strategy. As part of his regulatory duties, Michaelides represents Cyprus as a board member of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) and the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC).
