George Michaelides

Michaelides has over 25 years of experience in ICT. He holds a B.Eng in Computer Engineering and an MSc in Communications Systems. For more than 14 years, he worked in multinational organizations, holding various senior regional ICT roles and being accountable for delivering impeccable service through reorganizations, outsourcing, and the implementation and adoption of IT best practices.
Since 2014, Michaelides has led the Cyprus National Regulatory Authority (OCECPR) for Electronic Communications and Postal Services. In 2018, he also took on the role of leading the regulatory authority for Network and Information Security (NIS) for Critical Information Infrastructures (CIIs), including the setup and operation of the National CSIRT. His office is responsible for establishing and operating the National Coordination Center, which aims to enhance research excellence and competitiveness in the field of cybersecurity. Additionally, his office oversees the National Cybersecurity Certification Authority, which supervises, certifies, and monitors EU cybersecurity certifications for ICT products, services, and processes. It is also the coordinating body for the implementation of Cyprus' Cybersecurity Strategy.
As part of his regulatory duties, Michaelides serves as a board member at the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) and the European Cybersecurity Competence Center (ECCC).
