
Senior Legal Officer, The Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights
Alessia Gualtieri joined the Siracusa International Institute as Senior Legal Officer in September 2025. Since 2013, she has worked at the intersection of the Rule of Law, the Prevention of Terrorism, and Human Rights. She holds a Master’s degree in Law, an LL.M. in International Crime and Justice from UNICRI, and is currently a PhD candidate in Criminology. Previously, Alessia served with the United Nations, the European Union Mission, and several research centers across Europe, Western and Eastern Africa, and the Middle East, where she contributed to the development of policies aimed at preventing radicalization and strengthening criminal justice. She has also led the implementation of projects and capacity-building trainings in countries including Morocco, Tunisia, Indonesia, Nigeria, Mali, and Kenya. At the Siracusa Institute, Alessia is dedicated to advancing research, policy, and capacity-building initiatives that strengthen criminal justice systems and uphold human rights at the international level.
