Dr. Tamirat abegaz

Dr. Tamirat Abegaz is an Associate Professor of Cybersecurity and the Graduate Faculty Coordinator for the Computer Science program at the University of North Georgia. He earned his PhD from Clemson University in 2014, where his research focused on emotional design to improve the web search experience for older adults. His current research lies at the intersection of AI and cybersecurity, specifically on adversarial attacks against machine learning systems and the development of defenses against such threats. His recent research paper received the Best Application and Theory Award.
Dr. Abegaz's research interests include digital forensics, threat hunting, user experience (UX) design, genetic engineering, and biometric systems. He holds certifications as a GIAC Certified Forensics Analyst (GCFA), GIAC Cyber Threat Intelligence (GCTI), and GIAC Advanced Smartphone Forensics (GASF).
Prior to joining UNG, Dr. Abegaz gained extensive experience in various software development roles.
